Lars-Göran Nilsson
PhD, Olof Eneroth Professor
Summary
I defended my PhD dissertation in 1973 at Uppsala University and was a University lecturer there until 1980, when I became Professor of psychology at Umeå University. I stayed in Umeå until 1994, when I moved to Stockholm University to become Olof Eneroth Professor of Psychology. I was chairman of the department at Stockholm University 1997-2007. My role as Professor of psychology at Stockholm University involves research and teaching.
Teaching
I supervise four PhD students at the department in Stockholm and four PhD students at other universities. I give lectures both at the undergraduate and the graduate levels. Among other things, I give two graduate courses, one on Memory each fall term and one on Cognitive Aging each spring term.
Research
My research is about the development of cognitive functions across the life span, in particular the development of memory. Within the Betula Project I have, since 1988, studied how memory develops in adulthood and old age in a longitudinal perspective. In the project Brain Child at Stockholm Brain Institute I study, since 2006, how memory develops in children and teen agers.
My research also involves collaboration in the projects Aging and Living Conditions and Nordic Center of Excellence in Cognitive Control at Umeå University.
