Stephan Hau
Professor
Since 1991 I have been involved in several interdisciplinary research projects combining various research methods when investigating unconscious processes in a psychoanalytic context. The main research areas I have been involved in cover clinical research as well as extra-clinical research, in other words research focused on clinical therapeutic processes and the study of psychological phenomena outside the clinical situation. Some examples are:
Experimental dream research
- Combining fmri technique in order to examine the dreaming brain with qualitative textanalysis of dream reports.
- Study of perception and memory processes and the influence on dreaming by using subliminal activation method.
- Chronic nightmares of war victims.
Clinical research
- Treatment of chronically depressed patients.
- Psychosocial intervention program for children with ADHD.
- Empirical study of transference processes in a long-term psychoanalytic treatment.
- German guidelines for the treatment of anxiety disorder.
- Development of manualised ptsd prevention program for professional fire fighters.
- Preventive therapeutic shorttime intervention (against PTSD) with busdrivers and subwaydrivers involved in deadly accidents.
- Ethical dilemmas women and their partners run into when undergoing prenatal genetic diagnostics.
Social psychology
- Psychosocial interactive processes between groups and how the identity of an individual is influenced in a group context (www.ibl.liu.se/fog/kravall?l=sv).
- Symbolic processes in mass situations - the role of play and transitional spaces.
